This was more a stew than soup and so I added some beef goop with the h2o. I made it for a family unit of 12 but take no left-overs...likewise many people really liked it. It needs more seasoning and so I used Mrs. Nuance instead of salt. I used frozen veggies instead of canned for lower sodium and I did non peel the potatoes (for more fiber and vitamins). Information technology was delicious and like shooting fish in a barrel to make.
11/08/2012
Very skillful! My husband who is agape of vegetables ate this upwards fast! It'south very filling and has wonderful flavors! He says he'll even eat the soup a 2d dark. He doesn't do leftovers, normally. Nosotros will definitely make this fall soup again!

We really liked this soup. I had to change it a bit based on what I had on manus. I used frozen vegetables not canned, and had to use diced tomatoes. Since I made these changes I had to add extra h2o and I also threw in an extra can of tomato sauce. Thanks for the recipe!

I was searching for ground beef recipes and tried this one. Our family loved it. Instead of using canned veggies, I used frozen or fresh. Much higher in nutritional value. I reduced the footing beefiness to 1 lb and used grass fed pastured local ground sirloin. It was plenty of beef. This is a keeper. Thanks for the recipe.
03/19/2013
I recollect my mother making this very same soup when I was a kid, and I loved it then. Though all of her veggies were canned from the garden, this recipe is delicious!
02/02/2013
This is a huge favorite at our house. I do add beef goop for sure. Also hot sauce! I brand a huge pot and so freeze some. We've gone on vacation with a gallon zip-lock of frozen soup and had a wonderful dinner when nosotros arrived at our destination. Love it!!
03/01/2013
This is our get to meal for common cold atmospheric condition. Have been making information technology for many years. Use less ground meat but lots of frozen / fresh vegetables, low sodium beef goop, no table salt seasonings, fresh or stale herbs to sense of taste, lots of garlic, low or no salt tomatoes and love apple sauce and sometimes a little pasta. Occasionally grate some Parmesan on top of each serving. Serve with a good crusty bread.
04/03/2013
Good hearty meal.
02/05/2013
So good, and pretty low in carbs for those of us who are diabetic. Substantial plenty to be a whole meal! Has become a favorite.
12/31/2012
Overall I would say this is great. As Mardi posted, this was more stew than soup. I didn't have any beefiness goop or extra room in my pot so I made it this pretty much united nations-doctored. I don't remember this had enough liquids to actually call this soup, only it did hit the spot. Information technology was a scrap bland; i would recommend adding some more than spices to add together flavour.
08/29/2013
This one is a keeper, loved it ! and want to melt it again tonight! im currently traveling and my new Brazilian family LOVED IT !
01/21/2013
We really liked this at our house. Information technology is super thick - non really a soup. That was great for us though. I had to add together more liquid to proceed it from burning on the lesser. I will make it over again!
11/18/2014
Very very adept soup recipes. It took significantly longer for the carrots to become soft than the 5 minutes recommended. Next time I will sautéed onions with the beefiness, then add the celery and carrots to that mixture along with the beat out tomatoes and tomato sauce.
08/03/2013
I left the hamburger out and added 3 cups of cabbage. Information technology was a bit thick so I thinned it out with 1 tin of beef goop and a 2-3 cups of h2o and two beef bullion cubes. I adjusted the seasonings to gustation. Then adept.
09/xi/2013
I honestly had my doubts most this recipe, merely it turned out delicious. I will definitely be making information technology once again
05/27/2013
This was fantastic, like others I added beef broth to make it more than of a soup. I also added garlic salt. Will definitely make information technology again.
06/thirty/2013
This was actually good. I think the adjacent time I will put cabbage in it.
05/07/2013
This was a hit! I went with calculation liquid to make it more than of a soup, like anybody else did. I also added Italian seasonings, cutting up some mild italian sausage and a couple cloves of garlic. I did not put peas in it though, didn't have any on hand. I served information technology with staff of life. I cooked it in a crockpot instead of the stove top. I will make it again.

Greater starter recipe to add your ain touches! Since I live in LA I added garlic and rotel tomatoes for a footling kick. We always love Worcestershire with whatsoever beef recipe. I had some chicken goop and added about 2 cups, frozen corn, and one big sweet potato instead of carrots. Yummy and hearty!
07/21/2013
I only added some Kale, Zucchini, and Broccoli to make this a vegetable powerhouse and my family unit actually ate information technology up! I also added ii quarts of beefiness broth. I love that this recipe is super elementary to make from ingredients on hand. Everything tin come out of the freezer or pantry for those days when y'all haven't been to the shop for a while. It's flexible too, still is practiced when ingredients change here and there.
01/05/2014
Great soup! I did make some changes to account for the ingredients I had on hand. I used 2.75 lbs of hamburger and frozen black-eyed peas instead of canned. Information technology was too thick with the boosted meat so I added xvi oz. beefiness broth (fabricated with base of operations) and two cans of V8. I adjusted the thyme and pepper for the additional ingredients. The recipe turned out to be the best beef vegetable soup I've fabricated then far!
ten/05/2013
wonderful everyone loves this soup. add a little, have a piffling away it is still crawly! cant become wrong.
11/05/2013
This soup was so good! Making information technology once again next week. Family loved it.
02/04/2014
I used this recipe every bit my first effort to make vegetable beef soup and loved the manner it came out. While I started out using my dutch oven, past the time I added all the vegetables (fresh or frozen-the handbag mix with okra in it was a good addition), I had to move it to the crock pot. I added beef stock since it was very thick. Zilch is more enjoyable than warm, condolement food on chilly days and there is still some in the freezer to bask another day!
11/17/2014
Would make this once again.
02/08/2014
I doctored this up a bit. Added 30 ounces of beef broth, fresh garlic, and ii table spoons of Frank'south hot sauce to give it a bit of a zing. The added beefiness broth makes it a soup instead of a stew. I would start by following the recipe and let your taste be the driver.
12/24/2013
Not 1 drop was left....corking soup. I fabricated this the other solar day while I was doing final minute preps for Christmas. I did follow the advice of one of the other reviewers and added beef goop (as listed it was more like stew and I wanted soup) - added a 32 ounce container. That was the just change I made and everyone in my house loved information technology. A definite keeper and will exist making again real soon. Cheers for sharing this great recipe.
02/16/2015
This was a very succulent, thick, and satifying soup for a very cold wintertime day. As written I recollect it's more of a stew...very thick. I added 28 oz depression sodium beef broth to get this up to a soup consistency and only used 1 i/2 lb ground beef. I also added Montreal seasoning, garlic and onion powders to the published ingredients. Loved all of the veggies in here. A thumbs upwards from hubs, besides, with plenty of leftovers for the freezer. Thanks for sharing your recipe with united states, Sue!
12/xix/2013
This was very good. I did add together a can of beef broth then it was more than soupy, used frozen peas instead of canned considering canned peas are too mushy added some garlic, johnny's seasoning common salt and a couple splashes of worcesteshire. My married man ate 2 huge bowls and fifty-fifty wanted to take it the next night for dinner.
09/24/2013
This was succulent!! The ONLY thing I added was 2 cloves of garlic. Nosotros similar bold flavors and I usually put garlic in all my meals. Thank you for a great recipe.
04/01/2014
I used 1/2 cup of water, 1 can of chicken broth, no potatoes, frozen peas, and near a teaspoon of thyme. Lots of salt and pepper.
01/07/2014
Made this last night and information technology was perfect for a cold winter day. I made a few changes just based on what I had in the house - frozen peas instead of canned and diced tomatoes instead of whole. I too followed the suggestion to add together some additional craven broth for some additional flavor and liquid. I probably added well-nigh one loving cup and information technology resulted in a succulent and hearty soup. My son ate 3 bowls!
03/12/2014
Flavor was proficient. I added about ane.5 cups of water as it was very thick otherwise. Anybody similar it and I froze some for some other day.
01/07/2015
Soup on the first common cold night in January Is great for my family. Everyone loved it. Thanks
10/20/2014
This vegetable stew is very like shooting fish in a barrel and VERY adept. I added a little salt, cumin and paprika to give information technology goose egg. Not much though. It makes a big pot that my kids finished off for lunch the next mean solar day. I volition brand this once more. Information technology takes longer than xx minutes to set, plan on 45.
09/03/2013
Very good recipe. Used fresh vegetables instead of canned. Also, I finely chopped ii of our fresh chili'south and threw them in to simmer with with my beefiness and vegetable mixture. Lastly, I added some fresh chopped kale just nigh the end to requite a little more dimension in flavour.
10/xvi/2016
Why rate something when yous left out the beefiness and added the cabbage? You would be rating your own recipe. Small-scale adjustments may be appreciated but I made this just every bit information technology read and it was very practiced.
12/22/2013
Great meal!! I switched sweet potatoes with white potatoes, and only used 1 lbs of meat, but also added worshire sauce, it was actually good
04/03/2014
Absolutely loved this. Substituted the potatoes with sweetness potatoes. Great recipe :)
eleven/17/2013
LOVED this!
xi/26/2013
I didn't take tomatoes. So I used tomato juice instead of water.
12/29/2013
Used ground turkey, no peas, tin can of beef stock
08/24/2014
This was a delicious soup! I added 2 burgoo cubes (Knorr brand) with hot water before I added it to the soup. Information technology was more than like a stew since it was and then thick. I cut the recipe in one-half too. The hotter you lot desire the soup, the more pepper you add. I will definitely making this again.
02/23/2015
I added iv cups of beef broth, no lycopersicon esculentum sauce, no corn, frozen peas. OUTSTANDING!
04/15/2014
The recipe is excellent! I merely added some beefiness broth and more herbs to add more than taste.
04/16/2014
Very good basic recipe. easy to switch upward to brand it your own. also a practiced way to employ up leftover veggies and hamburgers. ( especially hambugers cooked on the grill) to brand it easier i will only apply the frozen pocketbook of mixed vegetables and usually instead of plain tomatoes i will use ro-tel. too cracking to employ macaroni noodles to bulk it upwardly a bit and make it a piddling heartier.
08/08/2014
When I brand this I do use frozen okra, lima, kidney and butter beans and what makes this standard recipe so swell is using the veggies you and your family like
08/07/2014
Makes a Big portion. I added a little more spice to it and it was delicious! Great recipe. Would recommend you try it.
12/eleven/2013
Great recipe! i added ii cups of water for more broth and 2 yellow chilis. That spice was perfect!
01/xx/2015
This is a savory hearty soup. My husband said this is his favorite soup I accept ever fabricated. Yummy!
02/21/2015
This was neat only must admit, I inverse it up quite a bit because I was emptying out the freezer & pantry due to leaving our holiday home afterwards several months. I used footing chicken and all of the veggies came from the freezer. I as well used a tin of diced tomatoes and liked the bits of tomato for color. Many added broth, I had a 48oz box of low sodium beef broth that needed to be used, I added the unabridged thing and loved the result. Hubs commented he really liked it and we take several containers in the freezer for the concluding few weeks of holiday!
02/24/2015
So nifty!
03/26/2017
I've been making this stew for the concluding 40+ years. It'south a peachy manner to salve on those high beef prices for stew meat and you get meat in pretty much every seize with teeth using ground beef instead. I oasis't found whatever one family or friend who hasn't loved stew however it'southward made. It's and then versatile that you tin literally dump in every thing but the kitchen sink and it volition always turn out yummy! You lot can make it with tomato plant juice if y'all don't have lycopersicon esculentum sauce or you can omit both and just add together canned diced tomatoes. You tin can add together beef broth (liquid, cubed or granular) or none at all. You tin can add any veggies your family unit likes including ones you wouldn't normally use in a stew and information technology will however come out good! Use whatever seasoning your family likes best but practise add some garlic to your browning beef (information technology actually adds to the beef flavor) as well as some diced onions as your browning your meat. Yous can use all canned veggies, dwelling house canned veggies or frozen veggies or a combination there of. I can't imagine anyone screwing up a stew especially if you lot simply use what your family likes. I don't ordinarily use bay leaf in my stew but I imagine it would only add together some other layer of flavor. For those new cooks out at that place don't exist afraid to dump any veggies your family normally likes in it. I promise it will come out astonishing. Sometimes I even put in some cabbage in our stew if I have it but not ever. We also like a few diced bell peppers in ours. This stuff is merely as practiced warmed upwards a mean solar day or even three
02/11/2015
This soup was fantastic, my whole family loved it, though my middle daughter said it was not "soup" considering it was so thick. Making it again next week. Simply change was I used beefiness goop instead of water and probably added a whole loving cup and I likewise threw in some Spicy V8 that I had left over. Seriously, so adept!!
11/26/2013
This was pretty skilful. I used footing deer meat instead of beef. If I make information technology once again, I will only use one lb of meat. It is definitely more than of a stew than a soup like other have said in their comments.
09/15/2015
Made this as the recipe says, with the exception of adding beef broth since I like my soups a little more, well, soupy.. It was very good but seems to need more seasonings. Only still pretty darn good!
11/06/2013
I really enjoyed this. It was a cracking basic recipe. I altered it some to make it my own, of course. I rarely don't. ( I used 2 cans of rotel and fresh reddish tomatoes in place of the cans of tomato the recipe asked for, and a few more seasonings) I also served it over rice. It was fantastic! Thank you!
xi/05/2014
This turned out so succulent! The just thing that I changed was that I added well-nigh a TBS of minced garlic and one Qt. of beef broth. I didn't accept any peas and I used two spice mixtures that I dear and use ofttimes- (Bragg Organic Sprinkle 24 herbs and spices seasoning and Kroger Zesty Seasoning Blend) virtually 2 tsp of each. Other than that, I followed the recipe that was given. We will definitely make this ane once again!
x/13/2016
favor was but a piffling flat, deadening cooked basis circular, cut information technology in small parts and added to the hamburger, which richened the favor. Information technology'due south very expert!!
01/05/2015
Then far it smells slap-up (and tastes great likewise)!! I added 32oz of beefiness stock and drained the beans and peas (if I feel it's also runny, I figure I tin can add together Arrowroot powder to thicken). I also added almost 1TBS of Oregano, Parsley, and Basil along with a lot of actress Thyme with liberal table salt and pepper. I think the seasonings are a little low-cal, plus I'm going through an Italian phase :) I besides added about 4 garlic cloves to the beef while it was browning, omitted the corn, and used sweetness potatoes instead of reg potatoes. We shall see! I'll report back!
02/fourteen/2015
Very good! I added to cups of beef broth. As well 2-4 cups h2o and lots of garlic.
11/05/2014
Amazing flavor the next day, we added sea salt pepper and garlic powder to the mix
02/12/2015
This soup was so simple to make and turned out delicious!! Reading the reviews was really helpful. Using ground chuck, I didn't need to drain the meat because at that place was hardly any grease. I omitted the h2o and used ii containers of beefiness broth (virtually 32 oz. each). Also, I don't use the thyme or bay leafage considering I didn't have any on hand, and information technology still turned out great. Sometimes I'll add a small can of tomato plant paste if I'm going for a stronger tomato flavor. This soup has get a staple in our home!! Thanks!!
06/08/2015
I used ground turkey instead of ground beef and I added a cup of Quinoa in the last 15 minutes of cooking. I concluded upward adding several (I lost rails) cups of water for it to be a soup. Maybe I will add vegetable stock next time.
09/23/2013
I actually liked it! I also had to add together beef goop considering it was besides much like a stew. It was delicious though!
12/15/2014
Since this recipe received great reviews, I decided to double the recipe on the first try. I'one thousand glad I did. First, I agree with what anybody said on adding more liquid. I added 2 cups of no sodium beefiness broth, and information technology wasn't enough (I didn't have any more room). My soup still came out like a stew. Didn't bother me considering it was so tasty. I did some small changes to the original recipe: I sauteed the onions with the beef and substituted the peas & green beans with frozen edamame & frozen cauliflower (hubby doesn't like peas or green beans). Will definitely be making this again.
03/15/2015
Hearty and piece of cake to brand. I recall I would cut down the number of potatoes though. I used iii and that was a chip too many. Also, exist sure to add a little water each fourth dimension you reheat and cutting the potatoes upward small.
eleven/23/2014
This is a really tasty soup! The only thing I added was some common salt (to gustatory modality) and rather than canned peas/corn/beans I used frozen.
12/29/2014
I substituted and omitted some ingredients. Namely: two cans of Delmonte mixed vegetables instead of listed veggies ane can of Campbell's tomato soup instead of tomato sauce Omitted the bay foliage Scrumptious
02/03/2018
I concord with many of the other opinions that this was more stew than soup and that it was a little bland. Perchance some thyme or bay leaves next time. With salt and pepper it was pretty good.
12/21/2016
This was SO easy and And so good. I added garlic to the ground beefiness and onions. I left out the celery and used canned carrots that I put in with the remainder of the veggies. I used beef broth instead of water. I also added some Italian seasoning. Served it with cornbread and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
xi/23/2019
easy and tasty. Can easily employ any vegetable.
01/21/2019
Followed comments to brand it Great! Volition make over again. 1lb ground beef. Added 1 tin can garbanzo beans, 4 garlic cloves, 1 tbls oregano . No peas or pea h2o, so made information technology upward with 4 cups water with burgoo (until covered with liquid). Cooked on High for 2.5 hours in slow cooker.
09/21/2020
Great base! I only had a 28oz tin can of crushed tomatoes and didn't desire to waste material any, and so I tossed it all in with the balance of the ingredients (in addition to 1.5 cartons of beef goop, double the recommended seasonings, & plenty of salt) and information technology was great! I'd recommend calculation the beefiness goop if you want more of a soup than a stew! Information technology all fit well inside an 8 quart Dutch oven. Volition definitely make again this wintertime.
12/11/2016
Fabricated a few modifications, added beefy mushroom soup and a second can of tomato sauce. It turned out skilful. My 14 yr old raved about it.
01/25/2017
i made it with italian crushed tomatoes, added some common salt and used frozen peas instead of canned.
03/22/2020
I added a tin of tomato soup and some beef burgoo to this and it made it fifty-fifty better!!!!
01/26/2016
First-class! Didn't add together peas, corn or thyme (my hubby claims thyme tastes similar pines needles). It was easy and cooked while working on homework. Will make once more and again, I was told about v times..."Neat Dinner Idea"! Enjoy!
02/20/2019
I'm assuming the absence of salt in the recipe was an oversight. You volition certainly need some unless you enjoy really bland food. I suggest beefiness bouillon cubes dissolved in boiling h2o. Recipe was far as well thick. 1/4 cup of water won't come close to making information technology like soup. I had to add nearly 4 cups of water also as common salt and finally some hot sauce to give it whatsoever flavour. It was still pretty thick.
09/fifteen/2016
Actually skillful base of operations to a vegetable soup. I stuck to the recipe but used frozen veggies and added 3 cups of beefiness broth. Also used oregano and a lilliputian cayenne pepper for a trivial bite! And so then good! Added a dollop of cottage cheese in the middle before serving amazing soup!
08/14/2018
I didn't have whatever peas on hand, and so I used dark-green beans instead. I cut my potatoes a petty larger than i inch, and then it took longer to cook. Just it was a huge hitting with my husband and I, and he's not really a large soup eater. My kids are picky and they didn't like it, but they really merely want junk :( I volition definitely be making this again in the future.
08/11/2016
Succulent with changes. Like other reviewers said, information technology was a stew, not a soup, so I added 2 c. of beef broth. I used no salt tomatoes so added 1 tsp. garlic salt and a few shakes of regular salt. I besides added one/ii tsp. basil.
06/09/2019
I fabricated the recipe exactly as written. Information technology was delicious and my family loved it. Will definitely get in again.
10/25/2015
The original recipe was too thick for my taste. Only the overall gustatory modality was fantastic. I added a carton of craven goop, because I didn't take beef broth on mitt, and virtually a cup of ketchup. I like the bit of sweet brought in my the ketchup. All that actress liquid I added got mopped upwards past grilled cheese sandwiches. Which I call back are the perfect compliment to this cold weather soup.
11/02/2016
I made this simply how it says just instead of ground beef added albondigas (meatballs) and cooked in the crockpot. Served with buttered tortillas. Yummy! Will definitely go along this ane!
10/23/2017
Made it for the 1st fourth dimension, information technology was okay. I had to adjust the recipe a bit because I didn't take all the ingredients. I would like to brand in one case more before giving a more than complete review but it's a fairly basic vegetable soup recipe... difficult to go incorrect.
12/31/2016
Very like shooting fish in a barrel recipe! However, I used frozen veggies & added beef goop to it.
07/16/2020
I've made this soup/stew twice at present and both times it'south come out fabulous! Husband loves information technology and it'southward a bully recipe when you have even just a 1/2 lb of leftover basis beef. Giving it 4 stars merely because I think it'due south a few spices/seasonings short of beingness perfection simply I haven't quite figured out what those are. Strongly suggest seasoning the heck out of your beefiness while browning with pepper, garlic powder, onion pulverisation and some common salt. Definitely added beefiness broth and used frozen mixed veggies. We aren't big on chunks of tomatoes in soup so I used tomato plant sauce and a can of diced tomatoes but only the liquid. Finish off with grated Parmesan! Volition definitely brand over and over!
03/27/2020
The only affair I did different was I added a tin of stewed tomatoes. The soup was excellant! I received a lot of compliments. Everyone asked me to brand it again. I will gladly make information technology over and over again! It really IS easy. Simply, that's OUR secret.
12/23/2019
Had some neighbors over for a little Christmas get together and it was a big striking. Since I had read some of the previous comments and I similar a lot of broth, I added both beefiness and craven broth. I added extra thyme, 2 bay leaves and some garlic powder. Turned out not bad.
12/eleven/2018
This was so like shooting fish in a barrel! I don't utilize can veggies so I used frozen.
11/04/2015
added 24oz tomatoe sauce plus 6cups beef broth family loved it
12/12/2017
This was a good bones soup. I used frozen vegetables for the peas, greenish beans, and corn b/c that is what I prefer. Also, instead of but the thyme and bay leaves I used an Italian seasoning blend. Beef broth worked good equally the base instead of just water and you lot definitely need more listed if yous want information technology to truly exist a soup verses stew texture. My married man liked it and my kids didn't complain about it so I see that as a win!
12/17/2016
Very tasty soup! I accidentally poured the unabridged can of corn into the pot without draining and rinsing information technology first. I call up that made the soup sense of taste a petty sweet. I tried to annul the sweet with more beef goop and a lilliputian salt. I skipped the tin of dark-green beans because I ran out of room in my dutch oven. Overall very good soup! I'll definitely brand this again.
09/13/2016
I am agoraphobic and don't leave my house unless my husband takes me. I was really running depression on groceries and husband was working belatedly. I had all of the ingredients for this except carrots. I had shredded ones for my salad. I used frozen mixed vegetables that had carrots and a few minutes before serving threw in some of the shredded carrots. I had everything else on hand. This was really proficient! The best was my husband had a meal ready when he got dwelling house. Give thanks y'all for sharing.
05/31/2020
It turned out bland so I added beef broth and it tastes fantastic!!
02/03/2018
Quick, easy, and filling! I added beefiness broth instead of water :)
12/26/2016
I was looking for a soup recipe to use some leftover prime rib in and this was the perfect one! I modified the recipe a petty using the diced meat in identify of the ground beef and used beef stock instead of water for additional flavor. I adopt frozen vegetables to canned and so used frozen corn and peas! Served with cheesy breadstuff!
09/20/2015
Succulent and easy :) I added a piddling marjoram.
